Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a sleepy part of Montreal Island called West Island. The West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is an extensive area that extends from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time there was short. Brugel developed on Courtice just outside Oshawa within Ontario. She wanted to become a professional dancer, but because of a huge increase in her height, she outgrew the dance partners she had. According to an article by Toronto Star, she revealed her height in heels as 6 feet 1 inches tall. After I outgrew the male partners, I quit. A lot of former dancers go on to acting and in the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion from the drama instructor at her high school who led her in the right direction. The teacher suggested she try to get a role for the school's annual show. The school's production was a success and she was selected to play the main character in Anne of Green Gables after she had a go at. It led to a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with an Associate in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Through the years since, Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions across the big and small screens. She attracted the most interest when she was offered the part of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the only Canadian actress in the season 1 and only appeared on occasion.
